In spite of freezing rain and snow on March 5, “it was a huge success,” said Bob Frink, a veteran and one of the coordinators of Groceries for Vets. “We ended up handing out all 52 boxes of groceries. Realizing that we were going to be short, several veterans donated a total of $400, and we purchased 20 – $20 gift cards that were handed out after the boxes were gone.”
The event was held at Berens Market, where the food had previously been purchased and boxed. Local vets helped distribute the groceries and get the boxes to the veterans’ cars. Members of the American Legion Auxiliary #229 checked ID cards.

Want to help? Donations can be made to your local veterans organizations by putting a notation in the memo line to designate the funds to Groceries for Veterans. You can also mail a donation to Berens Market on East Highway 12 in Milbank for the Groceries for Veterans Account #2175950.
