Several MHS teens took a cab to school on March 11 –  a tractor cab. FFA members and agriculture students lined up their rides Tuesday morning during the Third Annual Drive Your Tractor to School Day in Milbank. The event coincided with Ag Day in Milbank.

Caden Veen was up with the chickens to get his 1942 Farmall H on the road and to school by 7:55. Peyton Myers rode shotgun. “I have done this the past two years and I think it’s a fun event.” Veen said. “ I also did it because my friend Peyton has never done it before. This was his first time driving a tractor.”

Students who participated along with Veen and Myers included  Cody Wiik, Shane Spiering, Sam Shelstad, Noah Thompson, Noah Falk, Devon Mueller, Mackenzie Mueller, Ethan Shackelford, Tate Schlueter, Jesse Schneck, Joyce Jonason, and Tucker Giesen.

Their instructor and FFA adviser, Sara Colombe, arrived at school by conventional conveyance, but she recalled memories of learning to drive a 706 International when she was young.

The Drive Your Tractor to School Day tradition has grown in popularity across the nation since the early 1980s, but was only recently implemented at MHS. To add to the community Ag Day celebration sponsored by the Milbank Area Chamber Ag Committee, FFA members helped to serve the traditional pancake breakfast to honor local farmers. Miss Milbank, Jericho Jones, welcomed the guests to the breakfast.
