Bulldogs Take on Seasoned Jefferson and Yankton Teams

The Bulldogs tennis team traveled to Sioux Falls on Friday, April 11, for a triangular with Sioux Falls Jefferson and Yankton. Jefferson, who took 10th place last year at the State AA tourney, proved to be a tough opponent. Despite the Bulldogs’ determination and hustle, they fell 8-1 to the Jefferson Cavaliers. 

Milbank’s Greg Grabow and Alex Baugh’s chemistry, seen earlier in the day in their doubles match against Yankton, was also strong in their match with Jefferson. They took down Carter Kemmis and Ian Casper 10-4 to secure a victory for the Bulldogs. 

Other matches ended close. At No. 4 in singles, Baugh went to 10-8;  at No.1 Charles Whitesitt was edged out at 10-7; and Grabow fell 10-5. Whitesitt and Muellenbach made a good showing, but fell to Walter and Kemmis 10-4 in doubles.

Singles Results:

3. Will Muellenbach (M)  was defeated by Charlie Erickson (SFJ) 10-2
4. Alex Baugh (M)  was defeated by Khang Vuong (SFJ) 10-8
5. Devon Mueller (M) was defeated by Asner Vandewater (SFJ)  10-4
6. James Nelson (M) was defeated by Austin Josephson  (SFJ) 10-2

Doubles Results:
1. Whitesitt and Muellenbach (M)  were defeated by Walter and Kemmis (SFJ) 10-6
2. Grabow and Baugh (M) defeated  Rockne and Moeller (SFJ) 10-4
3. Mueller and Landen Appl (M) were defeated by Vandewater and Josephson (SFJ) 10-1

Results from the Yankton Matches:
Milbank put up a valiant effort, but were swept 9-0 by Yankton’s veteran lineup. The Bucks took fourth place last year at the State AA tournament. This year, they return five varsity regulars and six with varsity experience.
Bulldogs Greg Grabow and Alex Baugh gave Christopher Rockne and Luke Moeller a run for their money in doubles, but the Milbank duo eventually went down 10-6.
