Milbank Police Chief Corey Hooth was honored with a Patriotic Employer Award for his outstanding support of the South Dakota Army National Guard and its Reserve members. The award recognizes supervisors and employers who go above and beyond to facilitate their employees’ military commitments in service of their country while also maintaining successful civilian careers.

Chief Hooth was nominated for the award by Braeden Johnson, who is a Milbank police officer, as well as a member of the South Dakota National Guard. The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a program of the U.S. Department of Defense, has been working since 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component service members and their civilian employers. The Milbank Police Department (MPD) under Hooth’s leadership exemplifies the values of respect, flexibility, and encouragement for service members in the workforce. A spokesperson for the MPD said, “We proudly employ three active members of the South Dakota Army National Guard.”
