Fans Forced Into Dugout During Girls Softball Game

The Lady Bulldogs fastpitch softball team hosted the Deuel Cardinals on Monday, April 14, at Pribyl Park. The weather refused to cooperate, and at one point in the game, players and fans headed to the dugout to take shelter from the wind and rain that had turned to hail. Deuel’s offense and strong pitching was equally relentless and formed a double-whammy that took the Bulldogs down in five innings.

The Cardinals exploded for 22 runs on 12 hits while holding Milbank hitless. The Lady Bulldogs’ only run came in the fourth inning when a walk and a hit-by-pitch allowed base runners to advance. A combination of passed balls and wild pitches brought one runner, Payton Lamp, home.
Deuel’s ace Hagberg earned the win in the circle. She also led at the plate with three hits— a home run and a double—and five RBIs. Holden added two hits, including a double. She drove in four batters. Lanners contributed two hits and three RBIs. Nielsen crossed the plate four times. She drove in three.

Milbank pitchers Ashlynn Lamp and Peyton Ericsson combined for five innings of work. Lamp started. She allowed 14 runs (eight earned) on 10 hits in four innings. She struck out four and walked five. Ericsson took over in the fifth. She gave up eight runs (all earned) on two hits and five walks. The Bulldogs dished out 10 walks and hit three batters. Five wild pitches also fueled Deuel’s momentum.

Offensively, Milbank couldn’t get anything going against Hagberg, who pitched a complete game no-hitter with 13 strikeouts and six walks. Only six Bulldogs reached base—four by walk, one by hit-by-pitch, and one on an error.
Lauren Lester drew two of Milbank’s six walks. P. Lamp reached base twice and scored the team’s lone run. Ashlynn Lamp, Heyden Montag, and Kennedi Sayler each had plate appearances, but Deuel’s pitching proved to be a tough nut to crack.
The Bulldogs left six runners on base. Deuel stranded five. Deuel attempted seven stolen bases with only one runner caught in the act.
Milbank’s record now stands at 1-1 for the season.
The Lady Bulldogs went on the road to Redfield to take on the Lady Pheasants on Tuesday, April 15. Check now- here on The Valley Express for the results.
