Mason Allen Sets MHS School Javelin Record at SDNG Invite

Milbank’s track and field teams hosted the South Dakota National Guard (SDNG) Invitational on Thursday, April 17. The weather was brutal with cool temperatures and a fierce spring wind, but Mason Allen managed to set a new school record in the javelin competition at 124 feet and 5 inches, and several athletes etched new times and distances on the all-time MHS Track and Field Varsity Honor Roll.
Eric Townsend, Milbank’s head coach, said. “We got a chance to compete and achieve some good early-season marks and times. Overall, we were pleased with finally kicking off the outdoor season with a home meet.”
Boys Highlights:
The Medley Relay team of Garrett Weber, Sam Rick, Emmett Hanson, and Bryan Meyer won first place. In the 3200-Meter Relay, Liam Heller, Beckham Berry, Liam Street, and Meyer collected third place. The 800-Meter Relay team of Weber, Hanson, Harley Zemlicka, and Graham Lightfield came in second. The Bulldog Relay team, composed of Meyer, Zemlicka, Rick, and Hanson took first place. The Bulldog Relay team made up of Lightfield, Heller, Lincoln Holscher, and Street took fourth. The 400-Meter Relay team of Weber, Allen, Jaxson Wiese, and Gage Newstrand took second place.
Zemlicka came in first in the 300-Meter Hurdles. Lightfield was second. Bennett Hunt was third. In the 110-Meter Hurdles, Hanson took first place and made the MHS Varsity Honor Roll at fifth place. Zemlicka came in second. Lightfield was third, and Hunt took fourth.
Jeter Scoular took first place in the 3200-Meter Run. Franco Flores was third, Rylan Wendland was fourth, and Bennett Graham was sixth. In the 1600-Meter Run, J. Scoular was fourth. Heller was fifth. Newstrand took fifth in the 100-Meter Dash. Beckham Berry was fourth in the 800-Meter Run.
Hunt took sixth place in the Long Jump. Rick was second in the Triple Jump. Lance Engebretson was fifth. Holscher took third in the High Jump. Lawson Novy was first in the Shot and Oliver Korth was second. Korth was first in Discus and Novy took fifth. Bryton Blauert was first in the Pole Vault competition, Max Scoular was third, and Pierce Mathiason was fourth. Allen took first place in the Javelin and set a new school record at 124’ 5”. Blauert took fifth place at the meet and made it into the MHS Honor Roll at third place. Jeryn Borman’s score put him on the MHS Honor Roll at ninth place. Street also made the Honor Roll at 10th place with his throw.

Girls Highlights
Bianca Berry was second in the 3200-Meter Run and Tabitha McFaden was third. In the 100-Meter Dash, Bree Townsend was fourth. Ella Koplin was fifth, and Gemma Street was sixth. Bianca Berry was fifth in the 1600-Meter Run. Adison Pauli was sixth in the 200-Meter Dash.
The 800-Meter Relay team made up of Jacy Dexter, Zayda Townsend, Violet Johnson, and Siera Wenzl took first place. The 400-Meter Relay team of Dexter, Johnson, B Townsend and Wenzl also took first place. The Medley Relay team composed of Dexter, Z. Townsend, Wenzl, and Koplin also took first place.The Bulldog Relay team of Koplin, Z. Townsend, Avery Schuneman, and Wenzl took first place. The Bulldog Relay team of Macy Mueller, Haylen Schneck, Aria Prasnicki, and Pauli took second place.
Mueller was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and sixth in the 100-Meter Hurdles. Johnson was fourth in the Long Jump. Anna Neugebauer was fifth in the Shot and sixth in the Triple Jump. Dexter took first place in the Pole Vault competition. Rylee Schoular was second. Timbree Spors was third at the meet and made the MHS Honor Roll in a tie for sixth with Raina Untalan. Untalan claimed fourth place at the meet. Tenley Bohn and Brielle Baumgardner each jumped 7 feet to land in a tie on the MHS Varsity Honor Roll at No. 10.

What’s next? The Kiwanis Relays are today, Tuesday, April 22. The Bulldogs will travel to the Flandreau Invitational on Saturday, April 26.
