The Lady Bulldogs fastpitch softball team faced formidable pitching on the road at Florence-Henry on Tuesday, April 29. The Lady Falcons, who claimed the 2024 Consolation Championship in the State B tournament, came out swinging. Milbank could not make much headway offensively, and they fell 10-0 in five.
The Lady Falcons plated runs in every inning. They opened with two in the first, added one in the second, and broke things open with a three-run third. Florence-Henry tacked on two runs apiece in the fourth and fifth to reach the 10-run mark and end the game via the Mercy Rule.
“Florence-Henry’s pitcher silenced our bats,” said Milbank’s head coach, Nancy Hoeke. “(Emma) Reiter is a talented pitcher. Her speed and ability to change speed on the ball made it very difficult for our hitters to connect.”
Reiter held Milbank hitless. She struck out eight and walked just one. Milbank’s only baserunners came from a walk to Allie Meyer and two batters hit-by-pitches — Paisley Ericsson and Hallee Green—although none would come around to score. The Lady Dawgs committed one error. Ericsson fooled the Lady Falcons once to briefly ignite Milbank’s offense and gain credit for one stolen base.
Reiter also led Florence-Henry at the plate. She went 2-for-3 with a double and had two RBIs. Samantha Fuller mirrored her 2-for-3 with a double. She put up one RBI. The Lady Falcons stranded three.
Pitching for Milbank, eighth-grader Payton Lamp went 4.2 innings. She faced 29 batters and gave up 10 hits and 10 runs (seven earned). She allowed four walks and struck out three. Lamp took the loss. Reiter collected the win.
