The Milbank VFW Auxiliary has decided to continue putting Auxiliary Grave Markers and Auxiliary Flags on deceased members’ graves at the Milbank Cemetery, St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery, and the Wilmot City Cemetery. However, the group will no longer place white, wooden crosses on the burial sites.
Auxiliary members said the decision was made due to the increased number of deceased members and the difficulty of storing the crosses. They also noted fewer people are choosing to assist in the placing of the flags and crosses. Relatives who would like to continue the tradition can pick up a cross in the back room of the Milbank VFW.
New flags will be displayed on Memorial Day in 2026. The Jarman family – in memory of Mary Lou Jarman – has made a generous donation to be used to replace the auxiliary’s collection by purchasing all new flags
