

All of Milbank’s athletes measured up at South Dakota’s 2025 State A Track and Field Championships held May 29-31 at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.


Sophomore Sam Rick led the Bulldogs with two second-place medals – one in the Triple Jump and one in the Pole Vault. Lady Bulldogs – Zayda Townsend, Adison Pauli, Ella Koplin, and Siera Wenzl – earned fifth place at the meet in the 1600-Meter Relay and broke the 31-year-old MHS school record at the same time. Three other changes were also made to the MHS school records book. “A total of 21 season-bests were also attained throughout the three-day meet,” noted Eric Townsend, head coach for Milbank.

Competing for the Bulldogs, Emmett Hanson took fifth place in the 300-Meter Hurdles. Hanson also took seventh place in the 110-Meter Hurdles. The team of Bryan Meyer, Harley Zemlicka, Graham Lightfield and Hanson earned fifth place in the 1600-Meter Relay. In the 3200-Meter Relay, teammates Meyer, Liam Street, Beckham Berry and Liam Heller took 12th place. Garrett Weber, Zemlicka, Hanson, and Meyer claimed sixth place in the Medley Relay. Jeter Scoular took 17th place in the 3200-Meter Run.
Oliver Korth secured 14th place in the Shot Put. Lawson Novy came in 14th in the Discus; Oliver Korth took 20th. Rick finished eighth in the Long Jump.
Competing for the Lady Bulldogs, Z. Townsend, Macy Mueller, Bianca Berry, and Ella Kplin brought home 15th place in the 3200-Meter Relay. The foursome of Pauli, Violet Johnson, Wenzl, and Koplin finished 13th in the Medley Relay.
Jacy Dexter earned sixth place in the Pole Vault. Rylee Scoular was 12th, and Raina Untalan was right behind her in 13th. Anna Neugebauer took 19th in the Shot Put and 23rd in the Triple Jump.
The Bulldogs took ninth place as a team by earning 30 points. The Lady Bulldogs took 27th place with 6.5 points.

MHS Varsity Honor Roll – MHS School History Changes:
The boys Medley Relay Team (1600 meters) made up of Garrett Weber, Harley Zemlicka, Emmett Hanson, and Bryan Meyer moved to No. 7 all-time with their time of 3:38.90.
The boys 1600-Meter Relay Team of Bryan Meyer, Harley Zemlicka, Graham Lightfield, and Emmett Hanson with their time of 3:29.83 moved to No. 5.
The girls 800-Meter Relay Team composed of Adison Pauli, Zayda Townsend, Violet Johnson, and Siera Wenzl finished with a time of 1:49.41 to move to No. 7.
The girls 1600-Meter Relay team of Zayda Townsend, Adison Pauli, Ella Koplin, and Siera Wenzl broke the 31-year old school record with their time of 4:04.92.

Seven MHS seniors concluded their high school track and field careers: Oliver Korth, Bryan Meyer, Emmett Hanson, Graham Lightfield, Rylee Scoular, Gemma Street, and Siera Wenzl.
