Mary Grace (Bohlen) Morton was born on March 6, 1949, in Milbank, SD, to Ado and Marie (Boogaard) Bohlen. She was raised in the heart of Milbank, where she became a valued member of the community throughout her life.

Mary graduated from Milbank High School in 1967 before pursuing her passion for beauty and self-care at Stewart Hair School in Aberdeen, SD, in 1968. Her career began at A Den of Beauty hair salon in Milbank, where she brought her artistry to life in the realm of hairdressing.

On November 3, 1973, she married the love of her life, Berton R. Morton, and together they welcomed their son, Jerry, in 1975. Mary also devoted many years to her career at United Hardware, serving her community until her health necessitated a retirement in 2008.

A woman of many talents, Mary was not only a devoted wife and mother but also an avid gardener who found joy in canning the fruits of her labor. She spent her younger years helping on the family farm, carrying lunches to the fields during the planting and harvest seasons, and milking cows alongside her family. Even after retirement, she continued to share her talents by cutting hair in her home, fulfilling her lifelong passion for making others feel their best.

Mary cherished the simple pleasures in life, including coffee time with friends and family, especially on Sunday mornings, and she took immense pride in watching her grandson, Nick, deliver church sermons online. Her home was always open to loved ones, and she relished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, showering them with love and attention. Mary found companionship in her beloved feline friend, Pretty Girl, and her nurturing spirit was evident in her devotion to her husband until his passing in 2017.

Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her son, Jerry (Melissa) Morton of Sioux Falls, SD; step children: Linda Morton of Milbank, SD; Gary (Sheila) Morton of LaBolt, SD; and Larry (Dawn) Morton of Waconia, MN; 10 grandchildren: Heather (Kyle) Kuechenmeister, Anthony Zuraff, Jesse (Nicole) Morton, Libby Warns, Brittney (Seth) Russell, Nick Morton, Sydney Morton, Haley Morton (Gavin Woitaszewski) Whitney Morton, and Preston Morton; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Pat Bohlen, Myra Quade, Betty Schultz, and Linda Morton; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
