MHS students Camryn Sovell, Yanderyn Olivares, Macy Mueller, Sam Shelstad, and Preston Laskowske, performed with the 51st South Dakota High School Honor Choir in Aberdeen from July 20-25. Their culminating concert was held at the Johnson Fine Arts Center on the campus of Northern State University on Friday, July 25.
NSU also served as the host site for the week of rehearsals and associated activities. Chris Maunu, conductor, educator, and composer based in Portland, Oregon, served as this year’s guest director.
Members of the choir were chosen from junior and sophomore high school chorus members across South Dakota. The students attended a live audition and took a written test covering musical terminology. Miriam Schwenn is the choir director at Milbank High School.
