Sara Colombe, the agriscience teacher and FFA adviser at Milbank High School, successfully completed the 21st Annual National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE) National Agriscience Teacher Ambassador Academy in Lexington, Kentucky. She joined over 522 outstanding agriscience teachers from across the country who have also earned the title.

The academy includes a weeklong interactive, hands-on, application-based science training program that focuses on agriculture-related labs using the inquiry-based approach to student learning.

Goals for the National Agriscience Teacher Ambassador Academy include:

  • Provide teachers with educational resources and inquiry-based teaching skills to implement science-based activities in the classroom for environmental science, food science, sustainability and ag biological sciences.
  • Share lesson plans, laboratory exercises, and teaching strategies in order to improve the resources available to teaching agriscience.
  • Train and influence the next generation and future employees who will advance agricultural sciences to the next level.

After attending the academy, the National Agriscience Teacher Ambassadors facilitate workshops at the National FFA and NAAE conventions to help other agriscience teachers teach more effectively. Ambassadors also conduct workshops at their local, regional, and state conferences.
