Bulldogs Defeat Vermillion –Take on Webster Tonight on the Road

The Bulldogs offense and defense pulled out all the stops to deliver a 29-14 Homecoming victory over Vermillion on Friday, September 26. After the win, Milbank sits at 3-2 for the season and is ready to take on Webster tonight, October 3, on the road. Kickoff time returns to the usual 7 p.m. Webster sits at 1-4, with losses to Groton, Mobridge, McCook, and Woonsocket. The Bearcats’ only “W” came in their 32-26 victory against Roncalli on September 26.
In Milbank’s Homecoming game against the Tanagers, Bulldog quarterback Braylen Bowsher collected two touchdowns. Ethan Seyer and Mason Allen each claimed one TD. Bulldog Franklin Pederson made two PATs and kicked a 27-yard field goal to add three more points. Pederson’s field goal was a maneuver that has become nearly a lost art in high school football, but if it makes a comeback, we won’t be mad.
Sam Rick made eight receptions – one jump ball– for a total of 82 yards. Esteban Abrego had one. He made it count at 39 yards. Rick and Allen also each swept in to make an interception for the Dawgs.

Bowsher completed seven of his 15 attempts. He acquired 128 yards passing, with his longest pass stretching to a solid 39 yards. BennettHunt led Milbank in rushing by grinding out 45 yards. Zackary Karges made 10 yards. Lance Engebretson added four.
The Milbank defense held Vermillion to a total of just nine yards rushing. Micah Tostenson led the Bulldogs’ defense with six tackles. Carter Gloe, Ryan Keeton, and Hunt each made five. Bowsher had four. Layten Osowski and Lawson Novy each got two. Abrego, Allen, Karges, Andrew Karels, Ethan Owen, Kale Wenzl, Liam Street, and Ethan Seyer all made one apiece. Osowski made four punts, with his longest at 48 yards. Karges had six kickoffs for a total of 241 yards.
The Bulldogs accrued 200 total yards with 128 passing and 72 rushing. The Tanagers put up 133 total yards –124 passing and nine rushing.
Mick Thompson is in his second year as Milbank’s head football coach. He is supported by assistant coaches Brian Pauli, Brian Sandvig, Brody Gilbertson, Jeff Trapp, Carter Bowsher, and Connor Snaza.
