MHS Singers to Perform in All-State Chorus This Weekend

Two mixed vocal quartets from MHS will be joining nearly 1000 voices and a full symphony orchestra for the 73rd Annual South Dakota All-State Chorus and Orchestra on Friday and Saturday, October 31 and November 1. The Denny Sanford Premier Center will serve as the rehearsal and performance venue for the Grand Concert, November 1 at 7 p.m.
Milbank Students:
Sopranos – Rebecca Lavalle and Macy Mueller
Altos – Anna Neugebauer and Elyssa Tomac
Tenors – Preston Laskowske and Sam Shelstad
Basses –Jack ter Denge and Garrett Weber
The musicians will be under the direction of Jeffery Redding of the University of Central Florida and Joel Neves from Michigan Technological University. The concert will also be broadcast on South Dakota Public Television at 7 p.m. on November 1.
The orchestra concert selections include “Hungarian Rhapsody” by Franz Liszt, “Overture to the Ruslan and Lyudmila” by Mikhail Glinka, and “Russian Easter Festival Overture” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakow. The combined orchestra and chorus selections are: “Until I Reach My Home” arranged by Brandon A. Boyd and “Battle Hymn of the Republic” arranged by Peter J. Wilhousky.
MHS chorus members Ashlynn Batchelor, Andrew Karels, Jenna Korstjens, Yanderyn Olivares, Hunter Reede, Camryn Sovell, and Rylan Wendland rehearsed with Milbank’s representatives for performance readiness.
The vocal selections include “It Takes a Village” by Joan Szymko, “Measure Me, Sky!” by Elaine Hagenberg, “Fever Dreams” by Erich Eastman, “let me listen” by Dan Forrest, and “Plaudite, Psallite” by Kestutis Daugirdas.
