The South Dakota Highway Patrol released the following information to drivers— As of 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025, Interstate 29 was reopened from Watertown to the North Dakota state line. Although reopened, motorists are advised that road conditions remain extremely icy on this section of I-29.
Icy road conditions in northeastern South Dakota are expected throughout the day and into Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025. Cold temperatures will limit any melting, and refreezing on the roadway is likely. Strong winds, with gusts over 30 mph this afternoon, will also create challenges for motorists. High-profile vehicles are advised to use extra caution.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and consider delaying travel plans unless absolutely necessary.
