Lady Bulldogs Win in Season-Opener Blowout

Susie Schuneman, an eighth grader, scored 17 points, and sophomore Belle Pauli put up 11 to spark the Lady Bulldogs’ offense in their 55-18 varsity season-opener victory against Great Plains Lutheran on Friday, December 5. Playing in the Panthers’ house did not deter Milbank from nailing down the win long before the final buzzer. In the third quarter, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 25-point scoring spree to swamp the Panthers and stretch their lead to 49-18. The Panthers remained scoreless in the last frame to allow MIlbank to coast to the 55-18 victory.
Anna Neugebauer, a six-foot senior, also hit double figures for the Lady Bulldogs. She collected 10 points. Sophomore Avery Schuneman added nine. Sophomore Bree Townsend hit two three-pointers. Adison Pauli, also a sophomore, scored a field goal. Tony Howard will be at the helm for the Milbank girls this 2025-2026. season.
GPL finished both their 2024 and 2025 seasons with 15 wins. This year, with only one returning starter, they appear to be struggling to put the pieces back together. Kate Holmen, a senior forward for the Panthers, and Katherine Prahl, also a senior, each scored five points against Milbank. Junior Emily Moritz made four points. Sophomore Alyssa Rubendall and junior Julia Prahl each hit a basket.

JV Game

JV Milbank 35 vs. JV GPL 23
In JV action, Milbank took down Great Plains Lutheran 35-23.Sophomore Lorn Harstad scored a game-high 13 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Violet Johnson up six points. Bree Townsend made four. Zayda Townsend hit a three-pointer Lydia Gall also scored three points. Coach Kendra Junso serves as the head coach for the JV Lady Bulldogs.
Evelyn Prahl scored a team-high seven points for the GPL. Adilynn Sachwitz, Maddie Kannas, and Sydney Wikka each put up four points for thee Panthers. Kalelin Richter made one field goal. Sarah Rawerts and Myra Kobylinski each downed a free throw
What’s next ? Milbank will have the home court advantage for the first time this season when they host Dell Rapids on Saturday, December 13.
