Fire Strikes Ortonville Casey’s Early This Morning

Ortonville Fire Chief Kirby Athey reports the Ortonville Fire Department (OFD) was dispatched at 12:51 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, to a structure fire at Casey’s, a business at the top of the hill on Highway 12 in Ortonville. 

According to Chief Athey, the call came in from the alarm company stating broken glass motion was evident in the store. The Big Stone County Sheriff’s Department was first on the scene and radioed OFD after feeling heat on an exterior door and seeing heavy smoke coming from the roof vent “ 

Athey said, “OFD immediately called the Big Stone Fire Department and the Odessa Fire Department for mutual aid. Ortonville Ambulance was also paged to the scene.”

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the kitchen area, but heavy smoke caused damage throughout the structure.

Chief Athey noted, “The fire marshall arrived at the scene around 4 a.m. Firefighters cleared the scene by around 4:15 a.m.”
