MHS entered 81 band members in the Region III Solo and Ensemble Music Contest on Wednesday, February 25. The contest was held at the Watertown High School. It included 33 solos and eight ensemble groups.
Performances were judged on tone, intonation, rhythm, interpretation/musicianship, technique, and other performance factors. Each area of concern was worth five points. The total at the end of each performance determined the overall rating.
Brass and woodwind ensemble ratings: Superior (I) 35-31 points, Excellent (II) 30-26 points, Good (III) 25-21 points, Fair (IV) 20-16 points, and Poor (V) 15 and under.
Brass and woodwind solo ratings: Superior (I) 30-26 points, Excellent (II) 25-21 points, Good (III) 20-16 points, Fair (IV) 15-11 points, and Poor (V) 10 and under.
Percussion solo and ensemble ratings: Superior (I) 25-21 points, Excellent (II) 20-16 points, Good (III) 15-11 points, Fair (IV) 10-6 points, and Poor (V) 6 and under.
Instrumentalists from Milbank received One Superior Plus, 26 Superiors, and One Excellent.
Mrs. Betty DeBoer and Mrs. Pam Neugebauer also provided accompaniment for Milbank musicians.
