South Dakota’s 27th Annual Middle School All-State Band event was held in Mitchell on March 6-7. Keira Untalan and Uziel Nonoal Mendoza –both eighth graders and both clarinetists– represented Milbank Middle School. Both were members of the Festival Band that featured 100 musicians. The band’s culminating concert was held in the Mitchell Performing Arts Center on the afternoon of March 7.
The Festival Band was under the direction of Mrs. Jennifer Adams, the director at Vernon Middle School in Marion, Iowa. They performed: “Adrenaline Engines”, “Rumba de la Tumba”, “Seconds Out”, “Down On The Delta”, “Three Ayres From Gloucester”, and ”3,2,1”.
Susan Karels, band director for grades 6-12 in the Milbank School District, accompanied the students to the event.
