Track Teams Break MHS Records and Take Top Places

“The Scott Underwood meet was a great way to kick off our season as a complete team,” commented Eric Townsend, head coach of the MHS track and field teams. The meet was held on the campus of SDSU in Brookings on April 6.
The Lady Bulldogs 400-Meter Relay team and the 800-Meter Relay team set new indoor school records. Violet Johnson, Zayda Townsend, Bree Townsend, and Ella Koplin made up the 800-Meter team. Senior Jacy Dexter, Johnson, Susie Schuneman and B. Townsend composed the 400-Meter team. Senior Anna Neugebauer also set a new indoor school record (30’ 0.75” )in the Triple Jump.
Sam Rick tied the indoor school record for the Bulldogs in the Pole Vault competition (13’). Lawson Novy broke the indoor school record in the Shot Put. (49’ 9”)
“The Vince Relays meet in Elkton on April 10 was a great way to start our outdoor season,” Coach Townsend continued. “The weather cooperated (56 degrees and 5 mph wind) and many personal bests were achieved.”
The Milbank boys as a team and the Milbank girls as a team brought home first place. Coach Townsend also noted some shifting in the MHS all-time honor rolls. B. Townsend broke the school record for the Lady Bulldogs in the Javelin competition with her throw of 91′ 2″. Keira Untalan also cracked the top 10 in the Javelin with her toss of 65′ 0″. She now sits at No. 6 on the all-time list.
Harley Zemlicka improved his personal best in the 300-Meter Hurdles with his time of 42.08 seconds. His finish puts him at No. 9 of all time for the Bulldogs. Rick moved up to the No. 6 position for all time in the Long Jump with his leap of 21′ 1″.
The Javelin all-time list for the Bulldogs also experienced a bit of a shake-up. Mason Allen broke his own school record with his throw of 139′ 6″. Jeryn Bormann moved up to No. 2 with his toss of 126′ 10″. Ethan Seyer moved up to No. 3 with his throw of 124′ 0″.
Boys Top-Place Finishes at Vince Relays:
Jeter Scoular was first in the 3200-Meter Run. Liam Street, Scoular, Beckham Berry, and Liam Heller took first in the 3200-Meter Relay. Zemlicka was second in the 110-Meter Hurdles. Lance Engebretson, Allen, Kale Wenzl, and Jaxson Wiese took second in the 800-Meter Relay. Wiese, Heller, Street, and Rick placed third in the Medley Relay. Street, Cade Grabow, Adrian Seyer, and Zemlicka earned third in the Bulldog Relay. Heller was third in the 1600-Meter Run. E. Seyer took second in the High Jump. Novy was third in the Shot. Rick took third place in the Pole Vault competition.
Girls Top-Place finishes at Vince Relays:
Johnson, Z. Townsend, B. Townsend and Koplin were first in the 800-Meter Relay. Dexter, Johnson, Schuneman, and B. Townsend took first in the 400-Meter Relay. Macy Mueller took third in the 100 and 300-Meter Hurdles. Bianca Berry was first and Tabitha McFaden took third in the 1600-Meter Run. Haylen Schneck was second in the 400-Meter Dash and third in the High Jump. Koplin, Schneck, Schuneman, and Z. Townsend took second in the Bulldog Relay. Johnson, Schuneman, Z. Townsend and Koplin took first place in the Medley Relay. Johnson was third in the Long Jump. Schuneman was third in the Triple Jump. Neugebauer was first, and B. Townsend took third in the Shot. Neugebauer was second in the Discus. Dexter took first and Raina Untalan finished second in the Pole Vault.
