The 2026 South Dakota Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will happen in 34 communities on its journey to the state summer games. The Milbank leg of the Torch Run begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12. Athletes and officers will run or walk to carry a Flame of Hope from MHS to Milbank Elementary School.
Students from the high school, middle school, and the elementary school will be lining the streets to cheer them on. Everyone is invited to join them, says Officer Jake Folk of the Milbank Police Department. “It gives you that heartwarming feeling that you know you were out there to support these athletes.”
According to Folk, the group will start on Seventh Avenue, go over to Ninth Street – the street the elementary school is on– and straight up to the school.
