
The Lady Bulldogs softball team endured the long trek to Mobridge on Tuesday, May 19, but they were rewarded with a 10-7 victory over the Mobridge-Pollock Lady Tigers. Ashlynn Lamp collected the win in the circle for Milbank. She pitched all seven innings, and allowed seven runs on seven hits. She struck out nine batters and walked two. She was also named the Burger King Player of the Game.
The Lady Bulldogs built their win on runs from up and down the lineup. Allie Meyer scored twice. Eight players put up one run each: Paisley Ericsson, Payton Lamp, Lauren Lester, Kennedi Sayler, Payton Westfield, Bella Hicks, Macy Mueller, and courtesy runner Kaci Zinter.
Milbank started the game with two quick outs from their first three batters, but they soon got fired up with a single from Westfield, followed by a single from Hicks to take an early 2-0 lead. They added another run in the second inning to go ahead 3-0. The Lady Bulldogs tacked on two more runs in the fourth, and the Lady Tigers answered with one to put the score at 5-1. Mobridge-Pollock continued to battle in the fifth with three runs to move the score to 5-4 and threaten Milbank’s lead.
In the top of the sixth, A. Lamp hit a game-changing two-RBI single and the Lady Bulldogs leveraged several walks to keep that momentum going. They exploded for a total of five runs in the inning to put six runs between the two teams at 10-4.
In the seventh inning, Lady Tiger Bentley Bauer powered off a triple to jumpstart a three-run rally for Mobridge-Pollock. Milbank’s defense took notice and clamped down on the Lady Tigers to hang on to claim the victory at 10-7.
Milbank finished with seven hits – two from P. Lamp, and one each from Ericsson, Lester, Westfield , Hicks, and A. Lamp. P. Lamp, Westfield, and A. Lamp each recorded two RBIs. Sayler, Hicks, and Meyer, each had one. The Lady Bulldogs continued to develop their patience at the plate. They drew eight walks. Milbank committed five errors. Mobridge-Pollock finished with four. Milbank stranded 10 and Mobridge abandoned seven.
Rue Knudson took the loss for Mobridge-Pollock. She struck out three batters. Bailey Merkel led the Lady Tiger’s offense with three hits and two RBIs. Mobridge-Pollock also got two hits from Sophie Keller and one hit from Faith Heil. Quinn Kemnitz, Heil, and Bauer each scored two runs. Merkel scored one.
