Beverly “Bev” Ann Pierce was born on March 31, 1941, in Summit, SD, to Lloyd and Lena (Kaaz) Monserud. Her family moved to Utah for a short time before returning to South Dakota. She spent her early years living on farms near Summit and Milbank before moving with her family south of Wilmot in 1947. She graduated from Milbank High School in 1959. Growing up, Bev treasured the time she spent working alongside her father. One of her fondest childhood memories was learning her first song, “You Are My Sunshine,” from him.
On September 20, 1959, Beverly married Robert “Bob” Pierce in Marvin, SD. Together they were blessed with three sons: James, David, and Michael, whom she loved more than anything, mischievous as they sometimes were. After a brief time living in Milbank, they returned to the family farm southwest of Wilmot, where they made their home and raised their family. In 2013, they moved into Wilmot.
Family was the center of Bev’s life. Her greatest joy was caring for those she loved and creating a warm, welcoming home where everyone felt they belonged. She especially cherished hosting holidays and family gatherings, filling her home with laughter, good food, and treasured traditions. An exceptional cook and baker, Bev was known for her homemade buns and pies, which became family favorites and were always eagerly anticipated. Though her primary role was homemaker, wife, and mother, Bev was never afraid of hard work. She faithfully helped on the farm, driving tractor during harvest season, mowing the large family lawn, and lending a hand wherever she was needed. She also devoted countless hours to caring for her grandchildren, creating special memories that they will carry with them forever.
Bev took great pride in keeping an immaculate home and had a gift for making everyday life feel special. She was an avid reader who rarely passed up the opportunity to enjoy a good book. Her creativity and thoughtfulness shone through in the handmade birthday cards she lovingly crafted each year. Family and friends looked forward to receiving these one-of-a-kind creations, each made with remarkable care, attention to detail, and love.
Bev was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she faithfully served her church by teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Women’s Group and participated in Neighborhood Bible Study.
She belonged to the Country Dozen Extension Club for many years and served in several leadership positions. She enjoyed crafts, reading, camping, and traveling. Bev and Bob especially enjoyed pulling their fifth-wheel camper to destinations across the country and spending their winters in Arizona.
Left to cherish Bev’s memory are her sons: James (Marilyn) Pierce of Wilmot, SD; David (Sheila) Pierce of Wilmot, SD; and Michael Pierce of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters-in-law: Cheryl (Bill) Sieverson of LaBolt, SD; and Donna (Darwin) Anderson of Wheaton, MN; seven grandchildren: Brian (Cori) Pierce, Jenna (Tanner) Nelson, Amanda (Ted) Berckes, Lauren (Jared) Fitzgerald, Regan (Anna) Pierce, Rylee (Miles) Mutziger, and Rylen Pierce; two step-grandchildren: Jeremy Vosberg and Jackie Vosberg; 13 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Preceding her in death are her parents: Lloyd and Lena Monserud; beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Pierce; and two sisters: Donna (Orvin) Bronson and Phyllis (Lester) Davidson.
