Milbank School Registration Set For August 10-11

The first day of the 2026-2027 school year for Milbank students is Tuesday, August 18. Classes begin at  8:15 am.

Registration has been set for Monday, August 10 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Tuesday, August 11 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. School photos will be taken for ALL schools at registration.

Registration for the elementary, middle, and high schools will be held in the gym of the Milbank Elementary School. Students and parents in all grades are asked to report during that time. It is extremely important that the school has correct mailing addresses and contact information. Parents will be asked to fill out medical emergency information for each student.

“When school fees are paid at registration, it makes the first days easier and teachers are able to concentrate on the needs of their students rather than the administrative details,” said Peggy Greiner, administration secretary.

Fees
Visa, Master Card, and Discover credit cards can be used for fees associated with the school district.

Milbank Elementary, Middle and High School offices open on July 27. Principals, secretaries, and teachers are busy getting ready to start the new  term.

School Photos
Photos for all Milbank students K–12 will be taken during registration. This includes seniors, as they will need a photo for their ID card. Picture packets must be paid for when ordered. A separate check payable to Tailfeather Photography is required  for photos. Online orders are also available.

Student and Parent Orientations and Open House
Milbank Elementary School is conducting an Open House for all students and parents from 4 – 6 p.m. on Thursday August 13. Come and see the classrooms and visit with the staff.

Milbank Middle School is having an orientation for all students in Grade 6 and any new to the district middle school students  and their parents, at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 13. The gathering will take place in the theater.

Milbank Middle School will host  an Open House for all students in grades 6, 7 and 8 and their parents from 6-7 p.m. on August 13.

Milbank High School will hold  a meeting for all ninth graders and their parents at 6 p.m. on Monday, August 17. The meeting will be in the theater.

Breakfast (Student K-12) $2.60 per meal
Lunch (Student K-5) $4.05 per meal
Lunch (Student 6-12) $4.25 per meal

Activity/Concert Tickets
Activity/Concert tickets for students can be purchased at the time of registration. Activity tickets admit students to all locally-sponsored school activities for the entire year.
Grades 1-8 $20 per year
Grades 9-12 $25 per year

More Admissions Information
Individual admission to games and concerts are $5 for adults and $3 for students, with the exception of doubleheader games which cost $6 for adults and $4 for students. Homecoming Coronation and Prom Grand March have a separate admission fee of $2.

Adult activity/concert passes for all locally-sponsored events can be purchased anytime in the central office. Passes can’t be shared between individuals. Season passes will be available for $100. A 10-punch pass is $40. 10-punch passes can only be used for the 2026-2027 school year. Senior Citizen, age 65 and over, activity passes will be available for an annual fee of $25. These can be purchased in the Central Office at any time, also.

High School Band Students
High school band students need to report to the band room during registration for their band uniform fitting. Mrs. Karels will be available both days in the band room. If you are not able to come during registration, please talk with Mrs. Karels. Freshman band parents are encouraged to attend their student’s uniform fitting to visit briefly with Mrs. Karels.

MHS Band students are asked to mark Thursday, August 13 on their calendars as the first band rehearsal. The practice will be from 7:30-8 p.m.

Parking Passes
Students who drive to school are required to obtain a new parking pass each year. The process includes filling out the application and paying the $10 fee. The fee can be paid at the table during registration or in the high school office.

New Students
New students should present a certified copy of their birth certificate and a copy of immunizations records. Please note a hospital copy of the birth certificate is not official and cannot be accepted by the school.

Students new to the district are urged to visit their school building during regular office hours. Principals and their staff will be glad to give you a tour of the building, assist with locker combinations, and answer questions.

School Nurse/Immunizations
School nurses will be available to discuss any student health concerns or to answer questions about immunizations. Parents will be asked to fill out Medical Emergency information.

All students need to have immunizations up to date in order to be admitted to school. The school nurses will be on hand during registration and, if they have not already done so, all kindergarten parents should report during registration to present their student’s immunization record.

According to South Dakota law, minimum immunizations requirements for kindergarten through twelfth grade are:

1. Four or more doses of diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis-containing vaccine (DPT). At least one dose must have been given on or after age 4.

2. Three or more doses of poliovirus vaccine. At least one dose must have been given on or after age 4.

3. Two doses of measles/mumps/rubella virus (MMR) after the age of 12 months.

4. Chickenpox (varicella) immunization or verification that the child has had the disease.

Entry into 6th grade school year across the state need:

· Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, Pertussis)

· MCV4 (Meningococcal ACYW)

(Students ages 11 or older are required to get one dose of the Tdap vaccine as well as MCV4 vaccine to enter sixth grade. The new law also requires all transfer students entering grades 6 – 12 to receive the vaccinations. Students entering sixth grade who are 10 years old will have 45 days after turning 11 to be vaccinated.)

Legal Exemptions  
Certification from a licensed physician stating the physical condition of the child would be such that immunization would endanger the child’s life or health; or A written statement signed by one parent or guardian that the child is an adherent to a religious doctrine whose teachings are opposed to such immunization.
