Burial will be held at Graceville Consolidated Cemetery near Graceville.

Phyllis Ann Bauer was born on November 30, 1932, the youngest child of Leo and Sophia (Snyder) Wiegman. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Collis, MN, and attended grade school and high school at St. Mary’s Academy in Graceville, MN, graduating from high school in 1950. She was married to her “prince charming” (his words), Roland Francis Bauer, on October 11, 1952, and they made their home of 45 years southeast of Collis, where they farmed and raised their eight children. They moved to Graceville in 1997 and then to Grace Village in 2015, and Phyllis moved to Grace Home in late December of 2025.

Phyllis was of the generation that showed their love by serving others, especially their family. She thoroughly enjoyed being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was always welcoming, and her cookie jar was always full. She was an excellent cook and loved making huge meals for her family. She lived her whole life serving others, raising her family and then working at Holy Trinity Hospital for 23 years. She volunteered as a CCW helper, was a Graceville Service Club member, a church choir member in Collis and Dumont, delivered Meals on Wheels for over 10 years, was a longtime member of the Ladies Birthday Club as well as the Wednesday Pizza Group, and worked at “wake suppers” for many years. She took care of many plants and flowers in town and around Toqua Park, as well as taking camping reservations for Toqua Park for many years. She was an avid reader until macular degeneration took most of her sight; she quickly adjusted to her e-reader with no complaints. She enjoyed gardening and watching her plants and children grow.

Their special annual Christmas gift to the family was a week at Pleasant Pines Resort near Hackensack for over 20 years. Many special memories were made by the whole family on these trips while hiking, fishing, swimming, eating, and singing around the campfire. She was a very special mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and special friend to many. She raised her family with love, and she raised her eight children into mostly responsible adults. Her family is her legacy.

Her religion was very important to her. She had a beautiful faith in God, even at the end, when she passed peacefully on Sept. 19, 2026, at Grace Home with family members at her side. It is said that we are put on this earth to serve God, and to serve God, we need to serve others, and to serve others, we need to put their needs ahead of our own. She was undoubtedly a servant of God, always thinking of others first.

She is survived by sons: Randy (Denise), Scott (Mary), David (Belinda), Jeff (Terri), Bob (Sandi), and Barry (Heidi); daughter, Sue (Craig Fridgen); and daughter-in-law, Julie Bauer. She is also survived by sisters-in-law: Laurie Wiegman, Rita Bauer and Mary Chalmers; and brother-in-law, Paul (Linda) Bauer; grandchildren: Cory, Cody, Jennette, Lori, Dan, Brittany, Shelby, Mike, Sam, Alex, Tiffany, Molly, Nate, Jordan, Jack, Ella, and Jacob; as well as 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland; her infant daughter, Lynn; her son, John; her granddaughter-in-law, Meagan; her parents: Leo and Sophia; in-laws: Tony and Hazel Bauer; her sisters: Jean and Pat; and her brothers: Delbert, Clem, and Bob.

Memorials may be directed to State Services for the Blind or Essentia Health Graceville Foundation, both can be sent to 116 W 2nd St. Graceville, MN 56240.
