Ted Goetschius

Terrence “Ted” Goetschius, age 83 of Milbank, SD, passed away on September 22, 2026.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank. There will not be a formal service.

Terrence William Goetschius was born on January 14, 1943, in Sioux Falls, SD. He was one of 13 children born to Perry and Ruth (Poland) Goetschius. Ted’s mother passed away at an early age and Ted was mainly cared for by his grandparents. He graduated from Lake Preston High School in Lake Preston, SD, and continued his education at Moler Barber College in Aberdeen, SD.

Ted began his career as a barber by working several places before moving to Milbank. He worked as a barber for Abe Mosey in his shop. He eventually bought the business and owned and operated Ted’s Barber Shop on Main Street in Milbank. He retired after 51 years.

Ted was united in marriage on August 22, 1964, with Rosemary Frickson. They were blessed with one son, Todd. Ted served in the Army National Guard.

Ted was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish. He worked as a barber for two years in California but returned to South Dakota where he could hunt and fish. He took great pleasure in teaching his son how to hunt, fish, and appreciate the outdoors. He also enjoyed bowling and basketball.

Ted was a friendly, kind, and caring person. He loved visiting with his customers and friends. He never said an unkind word about anyone or anything. He adored his family and was extremely proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Todd (Kim) Goetschius of Milbank, SD; three grandchildren: Kala (Justin) Grover of Pierre, SD; Katie Goetschius (fiancé, Jessie Phillips) of Revillo, SD; and Wyatt Goetschius of Milbank, SD; three great-grandchildren: Charlie Goetschius, Jeremiah Grover, and Sterling Goetschius; one brother, Lynn Riveland of Breckenridge, MN; and his ex-wife, Rosemary Goetschius of Twin Brooks, SD.
