Milbank Volleyball Girls Do a Super Job at Sioux Valley

The Lady Bulldogs volleyball teams went on the road to face Sioux Valley in Volga on Tuesday, September 22.

JV 
Milbank JV Coach Kelli Pillatzki said, “The girls “fought for every point and kept the energy high.” That strategy earned them a 2-1 victory over the Lady Cossacks. Set scores were 27-25, 15-25, and 15-12.

Pillatzki commented that the girls will be working at becoming more effective at serve receive passing and siding out to get the ball back.

Eighth Grade

Coach Nancy Hoeke said, “We had some tough comebacks from behind and just kept chipping away in a couple of the close sets. Serving streaks by Tatum Brehmer, Trinity Brehmer, Isabelle Karels, Hannah Pauli, and Lauren Pinkert boosted our momentum and confidence when we needed it.”

Milbank posted a decisive 25-13 win in their second set, but lost 25-16 in the first. They were edged out at 17-15 in the third to give Sioux Valley the win 2-1.

“This team has come a long way since a year ago and is fun to watch,” Hoeke commented. “They show hustle and teamwork along with sound volleyball basics.”

Seventh Grade 
Coach Becky Johnson, leader of the seventh-grade volleyball team, said the Milbank girls struggled a bit with their serving and fell to Sioux Valley 2-0. Although the Lady Bulldogs ended up taking the  loss, Johnson noted, “The girls are getting much better at moving to and off the net.”
