Bulldog Golfers Wind Down Season of Building Up

Region 1A Meet – September 28
MHS golfers played in the Region 1A meet at Rocky Run Golf Course in the Dells on Monday, September 28. “Unfortunately, Monday was not our day, and  the Bulldogs were not able to have anyone advance to the state tournament,” said Mark Keeton, head coach for Milbank. Also, only a maximum of five golfers from the top four teams plus ties are eligible for the tourney. 

Treyson Richter of Tri-Valley was the region’s medalist. He carded a 75 at four over. Milbank senior Seth Van Hoorn took 23rd place at 104.

Eighth grader Jaxson Bear was 24th at 106.

Junior Pierce Mathiason finished 27th at 112. Senior Thomas Bass took 28th at 114. Senior Jeryn Bormann secured 29th place at 115. “I really appreciated the effort of our boys,” Keeton added.

Sisseton Invitational – September 24
On Thursday, September 24, Milbank traveled to the Sisseton Invitational.“This was probably our windiest meet of the year, which made already tough greens even tougher,” commented Coach Keeton. In spite of that. Milbank was able to nail down fifth place. Harper Schanbel of Roncalli won the meet with a 73 at one over.

Bass of Milbank secured 12th place for the Bulldogs with his score of 96. VanHoorn took 21st at 102. Bormann finished 22nd at 105. Mathiason was 27th at 107.Bear was 28th at 107.

Watertown Invitational – September 22
The Bulldog golfers headed to the Watertown Invitational on Tuesday, September 22. 

“This is always a great meet to attend as it is a tough test,” said Keeton. Cattail Crossing is a state tournament course close to home.”  

Asher Dannenbring of Mitchell was named  the medalist on the third playoff hole. He carded a 70 at two under. Yankton took first place as a team.

Keeton said, “The boys are making good strides in the right direction.“ Bormann tied for 78th place at 96. VanHoorn took 83rd at 98. Mathiason finished with a 109 to earn 84th. Bear was just behind him and tied for 85th place at 111.
