LifeServe Center acknowledged Gloria Boos of Milbank for her milestone four-gallon donation during the Milbank community blood drive on October 8. Tracy Pinkert reached his two-gallon milestone, and Paula VanHoorn surpassed a total of one gallon.
“These milestones represent years of generosity and a commitment to showing up for patients who need blood. We are incredibly grateful for donors who continue to make giving blood a priority,” said Abbie Arneson of LifeServe.
Arneson also thanked new donors Ashley Hanson, Melissa Street, and Joseph Weber. “First-time donors are the future of our blood supply,” Arneson said. “We are always excited to welcome someone who has decided to donate for the first time, and we hope it becomes the beginning of a lifelong commitment to helping others.”
Altogether, the drive collected 23 units of blood, potentially impacting up to 69 patients. A total of 30 donors were scheduled, with 24 individuals stepping up to give and 21 eligible donors contributing to the day’s successful collection.
“October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an important reminder that blood donations play a critical role in caring for cancer patients,” Arneson stated. “When we think about breast cancer, we often focus on early detection, treatment, and research, but blood donors are also an important part of a patient’s journey.”
“Chemotherapy and other cancer treatments can affect a patient’s ability to produce healthy blood cells, making blood transfusions an essential part of their care,” Arneson continued. “Every person who takes the time to donate is helping ensure those blood products are available when patients need them.”
LifeServe also extended its appreciation to Susan Sime, who coordinates the Milbank community blood drives and dedicates her time to recruiting donors and encouraging community participation.
