MHS Cross Country Runners Qualify For State

The Milbank cross country teams competed for a spot in the state competition during the Region 1A meet at the Webster Golf Club on Wednesday, October 14. Only the top-three teams and top-20 runners continue on to State. The Lady Bulldogs advanced as a team by taking second place. Individually, six runners – Ella Koplin, Macy Mueller, Audrey Schmeichel, Kingsley Jensen, Ainsley Brown, and Lennox Spors made the cut. 

The Bulldog boys got oh-so close as a team, but were edged out in the final seconds of the meet by Roncalli. Individually, Jeter Scoular, who won the race, and Franco Flores at 13th place earned a berth at State.  “Overall, we are very pleased to send a girls team and two boys to the State CC meet next weekend in Rapid City.  We should have a great chance to earn some medals.” Townsend said.

Girls team alternates will be Haylen Schneck and Paola Culhuac Segundo. Also travelling with the team will be  seniors Zayda Townsend, Liam Heller, Beckham Berry, and Bennett Graham.

The state meet will be held at Hart Ranch in Rapid City on Saturday, October 24. Races start at 11 a.m. Mountain Time.

JV Races – 4,000 Meters (No JV competition at State)
JV Boys –  Great Plains Lutheran took first place, Sisseton was second, and Webster came in third. Milbank’s only runner, seventh-grader Landon Athey, placed 16th when he crossed the finish line at 18:01.

JV Girls –  Milbank took first place as a team. Ayla Tulowetzke of Hamlin won the race at 18:06.
