Christian Reimche and Dan Seurer addressed the Milbank City Council Monday, November 14, during its regular meeting. Reimche and Seurer co-founded Buffalo Ridge, a professional aerial application service operating from the Milbank Airport. They believe there is more that could be done to promote aviation and generate income for the City of Milbank.
“We currently use a hanger at the airport, but have been approved by the FAA to build a new hanger and office,” Reimche stated. “We feel we could add services helpful for many people including the City of Milbank.” Improvements suggested were the selling of jet fuel, airplane storage, and airplane maintenance work.
In discussions with City Administrator Jason Kettwig and the councilman in charge of the airport, Joel Foster, the two were asked if they would be willing to sign a long-term lease. They both agreed. “We will sign a lease for as long the council would like us to.” Mayor Raffety requested the company submit a proposal by year’s end.
The second reading of Ordinance 807 defining on-sale liquor hours was approved along with the renewal of 2017 liquor licenses for the American Legion, VFW, Lantern Inn, The Pump, Habaneros, Speedway, Midtown Liquors and Valley Liquor.
The hiring of Rob Newstrand as part-time police officer at the rate of $17.50 per hour was also approved.
Councilmen gave reports for the following departments – parks, property standards, fire, finance, wastewater, housing, police, street, rubble site and water. The next regular meeting of the council is scheduled for Monday, December 12, at 7 p.m. in the community room of the Milbank Visitors Center.
