Spring. You might not be thinking spring as you look out the window today, but it’s that time of the year again. Time to spring forward. Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 9, at 2 a.m.

Most clocks turn back automatically if they are part of an electronic device. Some, like your microwave, require a bit more mechanical finesse or perhaps a swear word or two. Neglect them, and you might be late quite a few times before we fall back again in November. Of course, there is always the chance The Sunshine Protection Act, which was reintroduced to Congress on March 6, will pass this year. The act would make DST the new standard time and abolish the need for biannual springing and falling.

Florida’s legislature overwhelmingly voted to make DST permanent last year and California voters approved a similar measure last November. However, neither state can make the change without federal approval. If the Sunshine Protection Act passes this year, Florida, California and the other 46 states will join Hawaii and Arizona who already do not observe Daylight Saving Time.

Stay posted for results of that legislation. In the meantime, it’s time to dig out the owner’s manual for your oven. Just don’t make any plans for 2:30 tomorrow morning- that time doesn’t exist.
