Milbank art students Max Schuelke and Qualon Grant each placed in the State Visual Arts Contest Gallery. The contest was held along with the Art Wars competition on April 10-12 at the Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center. Max took third place in Printmaking and Qualon took third place in Functional Ceramics. Jericho Jones competed in the Ceramics division of Art Wars.

Ashley Plummer, who serves as the Milbank students’ art instructor, said, “This is the first year MHS has entered the regional competition that enabled us to advance to the state contest.”  The events are sponsored by the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA).

Milbank competed against students from 36 schools who submitted a record-breaking total of 398 registered works. It was the highest participation since the program began 11 years ago. The gallery was open to the public on Friday evening and Saturday.
