The Milbank boys golf team competed at the Northeast Conference Meet in Aberdeen on August 26. “Jonathan (DeBoer) came away with the title of NEC champ for the second time,” stated Mark Keeton, head coach for MHS. DeBoer previously earned the honor of medalist in Sisseton three years ago as a freshman. This year at Lee Park in Aberdeen, DeBoer finished at two under with a 69.
“He was solid all day, and I can’t say I remember him missing a shot,” stated Keeton.
DeBoer bested Harper Schnabel, Lucas Daggett, and Finn Anderson– all top Roncalli golfers. Schnabel and Daggett each came in at 74. Anderson carded 75.

Milbank golfer Thomas Bass took 15th place and received a medal with his score of 95.

Seth VanHoorn was 18th at 98.

Pierce Mathiason was 23rd at 109.

Jerynn Bormann also shot a 109 for the Bulldogs to collect 24th place.
The final team standings: Roncalli took first at 303. Sisseton was second at 349. Groton was third at 355. Milbank took fourth at 371. Redfield came in fifth at 401
In more good news about the Bulldogs, Keeton noted, “In just a little over a week, we were able to drop our team score by 51 strokes compared to our first meet of the year. There is still a lot of work to do, but it is nice to get things going in a positive direction.”
Keeton commended junior Thomas Bass, who is in his first season as a starter, for contributing to the team’s overallupswing: “Thomas had a rough first outing in Volga, but he was able to improve his score by 35 strokes at the NEC meet this past week to snag a 15th -place medal.
“The best part was when we got back, he went straight to the range. If you want to improve you have to put the time in,” said Keeton.
What’s next? The Bulldogs, along with 10 other teams, were back in Aberdeen today at Lee Park.
