Jim was born on February 7, 1962 in Milbank, SD to William “Bill” and Billie Francis (Barnes) Vissers. He was raised and received his education in Milbank. Following his high school education, Jim served in the United States Army and was stationed in West Germany. Upon Jim’s honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to South Dakota and began his career as a heavy equipment operator. In over 30 years, Jim rarely missed a day of work. Jim was currently driving loader for Knife River.
When Jim wasn’t working, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, most recently his four-wheeler and snowmobiles (or at least buying them), hunting and woodworking. Above all, Jim was dedicated to his family; especially his grandchildren. Jim was blessed with the ability to fix about anything. He loved volunteering himself, as well as his children, to help in whatever project that was at hand. He also enjoyed socializing with friends at Walter’s HiHo and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was a loving dad, papa, brother, uncle, friend and patriot that will be deeply missed.
Grateful for having shared his life are his four children; Chris Vissers, Sioux Falls, SD, Katie Vissers, Box Elder, SD, Cody (Macey Lang) Vissers, Freeman, SD and Kayla (Jerry) Jessop, Freeman, SD; ten grandchildren, Isabella, Tucker, Sophia, Emalaya, Wade, Leighla, Corah, Zoe, Bo and Zia; two brothers, John (Michelle) Vissers, Sioux Falls, SD and Rick (Joleen) Vissers, Sioux Falls, SD; three sisters, Michelle Mertens, Brookings, SD, Bonnie Pekron, Marion, SD and Lori Vissers, Brookings, SD; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
