Steven Hegge, age 65, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, friendship, and a deep love for the outdoors.

Steven Michael Hegge was born on August 1, 1960, in Ortonville, MN, to Warren “Red” and Phyllis (Keller) Hegge. He grew up in the Ortonville area and attended Ortonville Public Schools.

A 1978 graduate of Ortonville High School, Steve entered the construction trade soon after and built a respected career as a bricklayer. Over the years, he worked on residential and commercial projects — schools, churches, and other structures that continue to serve their communities. He took pride in knowing his hands helped build places that mattered.

Steve worked hard to live and lived to hunt and fish. The outdoors was his true home, and anyone who knew him knew that’s where he could be found whenever he had time off. Later in life, fishing became his greatest passion. He had a natural, almost uncanny talent for it — something his friends in Ortonville knew well, whether they were out with him in the boat or ice-fishing together in the snow-bear.

Steve is survived by his mother, Phyllis Hegge; his brothers: Brian Hegge; and Paul (Jane) Hegge; his daughter, Elsa; his grandson, Colton; and his nephew, Robbie. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who shared time with him on the water, in the woods, or around a jobsite.
