The Bulldogs welcome the Cavaliers of Roncalli this Friday, October 9. Roncalli, now competing in 11B, sits at 2-4 this season. Milbank is also at 2-4 in 11A. Kick-off is 7 p.m. Don’t forget it’s Pink Night!

When the Bulldogs rolled into North Sioux City on Friday, October 2, Dakota Valley was on the hunt for their first win of the season. HOCO had the Panthers fired up  and kept them cooking. Interceptions were made, fumbles happened, and lots of points were scored.  After a long first half,  the Bulldogs lost steam as Dakota Valley kept their foot on the gas, and Milbank took the loss at 57-20.

Dakota Valley got out to a seven-point lead in the opening minutes with a 26-yard touchdown and a good extra-point kick. Bulldog junior Max Scoular bit back on Milbank’’s first possession with a 75-yard run up the edge of the field and into the endzone for a Milbank TD. The extra-point kick was blocked, but things were tight at 7-6. Dakota Valley struck again at the 7:28 mark to go ahead 14-6. After a Panther interception, Dakota Valley crossed the line again to lead 21-6. 

On the kick return, senior Sam Rick got to the 42-yard line, and Milbank quarterback Lincoln Holscher, a junior, got the ball to senior Lance Engebretson and Engebretson got the rock to the Bulldogs 14-yard line. On a go-fer-it on fourth and nine, Holscher connected with Rick who twisted for the grab and the TD. No extra points were earned, but the first quarter ended with the score at 21-12.

The second  quarter was also action packed. The Panthers put up seven points on a quarterback keeper and a kick through the posts. On the kick-off, junior Bennett Hunt made it to the Bulldogs’ 46-yard line.  Rick then caught it inside the Panther’s 20 and Hunt moved it down to the 5.  At third and goal from the 7, Rick took it up the gut and into  the endzone for a TD. The Dawgs then lined up for the two-point conversion. Rick got it over the border again to shrink the gap to 28-20 with the clock at 8:14.. The second quarter also included a pair of fumbles, several interceptions, and two touchdowns for the Panthers.The score climbed to 42-20 in favor of Dakota Valley.  

In the third, Dakota Valley tacked on two more touchdowns and with the extra points, the score sat at 57-20. That score would stick around and become the final score of the game.  

MIlbank gained a total of 282 yards – 183 passing and 99 rushing. Dakota Valley acquired 377 –  also 183 passing and 194 rushing. The Bulldogs gained 14 first downs and the Panthers got 18.

Holscher went 10 of 29 with one TD. Hunt led the Bulldogs with 64 yards rushing. Engebretson got 27 and Rick had eight. Rick grabbed six receptions. Street had two. Engebretson and Max Scoular each hauled in one. 

Tackles: Brady Allen had five and five assists –one for a loss. Hunt had four and three assists. Engebretson had four with four assists. Rick had three and five assists. Mason Allen had three with one assist. Ethan Seyer had three and one assist with one for a loss. Scoular got two. Adrian Seyer made two. Kaleb  Lindstrom made two– one for a loss. Brock Sime, Bryton Blauert, Liam Street, Finley Hunt and Oliver Erickson each got one tackle. Kale Wenzl got five assists. Sime, Street, F. Hunt (for a loss), Maxton Schafer and Emmett Snaza each got one assist.
