Twelve teams battled for the top places during the Whetstone Valley Rodeo Association’s Ranch Rodeo Saturday, August 5.
“It was a beautiful evening and perfect for cattle, cowboys, cowgirls and spectators,” expressed Kathy Tyler, event organizer.
The competitors took part in five different events including branding, doctoring, sorting, a relay race and trailer loading in an effort to earn buckles and prize money. The top three teams were rewarded. Calcutta winner Roy Schuchard with Schuchard’s Westside GMC – Randy Schuchard, Adam Boone, Jenny Bussard and Zach Guy placed first in two events and also took home the overall first prize.
Second place went to Pro Welding and Repair. Members include Tori Braaten, Cody McMahon, Austin Beaty and Blayne Meier.
Rounding out the money winners was the 3rd place team The Wagner Land & Cattle team. Members are Joel Wagner, Jason Hyatt, Jordan Bohlman and Amy Thompson.
Approximately $3,200 was paid out to the winners of the Calcutta.
Three team penning events remain for this season. Those events will take place on August 19, September 8 and September 23.
