The road construction project along Highway 12 through Milbank is just slightly behind schedule according to City Administrator Jason Kettwig. The majority of the main road is completed. What remains is dirt and cement work to set the sidewalks and boulevards in place from the corner of Third Street, the corner of Casey’s and the Milbank Fire Hall, through First Street, at the Food-N-Fuel corner.

Phase one of the plan began with the goal of completing the intersection at Third Street as soon as possible so traffic could be routed using that main intersection. The Third Street intersection opened two weeks ago. Once the sidewalks and boulevards are completed and all intersections fully functional for the remaining part of phase one, phase two of the construction plan can begin.

Phase two is not scheduled to be completed prior to the start of the 2015-2016 school year. While some people may view that as a frustration, Kettwig feels it make actually help spread the traffic out between the various residential routes to each school.

In the Fourth Street construction project, Kettwig stated that project is ahead of schedule and is going very well. He noted the storm sewer has been installed from Railway Avenue to Third Avenue. The next step is to install the sanitary sewer and then water within those parameters before following the same steps from Third Avenue to Highway 12.
