Main Street Milbank will open Friday (August 14) according to Jason Kettwig, city administrator. “They will be sweeping the streets and sidewalks and removing the barricades very early Friday,” he explained. The work is just two days behind schedule. “That’s just how things go,” Kettwig noted.
Construction on the intersection of Highway 12 and Ninth Street continues as planned and is scheduled to be open by the time school begins Monday, August 24. Stop lights will not be installed at that intersection as was hoped. “The traffic pattern study did not meet the warrants for federal funding,” mentioned Kettwig.
Once the Ninth Street intersection is completed, crews will move back to finish the Fourth Street and Third Avenue project and get that area put back together. “We need to get the Ninth Street intersection and the Fourth Street and Third Avenue projects completed in order to make the detour routes work for the remainder of the project,” said Kettwig.
