Even though it seems like the Highway 12 road construction project is taking forever, the light at the end of the tunnel is definitely in sight.

Additional concrete has been poured covering both lanes of Highway 12 midway to the Fifth Street intersection, in front of School House Suites. The city is working on its last leg of underground work between Fourth and Fifth Street. Once all underground work is done, pouring of the final stretch of concrete can be done.

When Highway 12 is completed, the final steps along Fourth Street can be finished. Jason Kettwig, city administrator, stated that that area was delayed so crews could focus more on Highway 12 and get that open as quickly as possible.

Highway 12 from Ninth Street to Flynn Drive has been completed with asphalt laid and lines painted. The turning lane onto Flynn Drive is done.

The last month of the project will include the work of getting the sidewalks, curbs and line painting completed and ready to open before the winter weather sets in.
The latest completion date for the entire project has been set at November 23, three weeks later than the original date.

“We got off to a slow start going up the hill to Main Street, but this last month has gone really well,” commented Kettwig. “Once you fall behind, it gets really hard to catch back up.”
