The Milbank City Council met Monday, December 14, for its regular monthly meeting.

Two consent agenda items were approved. These items require little or no deliberation by the council. The group approved the engineering agreement with Banner Associates, Inc. for Phase 2 reconstruction of Fourth Street from Park Avenue to Highway 12. The council also approved a pay increase for police officer Robert Newstrand to $18.16 effective immediately.

Mike Hanson’s Planning and Zoning report stated that zoning for two home daycares on Viola Street were approved. In his Parks Report, Hanson stated the ice rink at Hurley Park is closed because ice has yet to be form, but indicated an event would, nonetheless, be occurring there soon..

Hanson also noted that three members were added to the Milbank Fire and Rescue Department, increasing the force to 39 members. Justin Jonason, Blaine Schell, and Dylan Howen were approved as members.
Other departmental reports were given for property standards, finance, personnel, wastewater, police, street, rubble site, and water with no actions taken.

A special year-end meeting of the council is slated for Monday, December 28, at 7:30 a.m. The next regular meeting is set for Monday, January 11, at 7 p.m.
