Fifteen students from Milbank Middle School recently completed their auditions for the 2016 South Dakota Middle School All-State Band, which is in its 17th season.

Students vying for a position in the band include sixth grader William Karels, seventh graders Aiden Boerger, Logan Meyer, Camryn Phinney, Mason Riley, Drake Rogers, Madi Thue and Peyten Wiese, and eighth graders Landon Brown, Bailey Frerichs, JD Lusk, Tracy Pillatzki, Alaina Rausch, Crystal Spiering and Lilly Trapp.

Each student prepared scales and two etudes in preparation for the audition. The all-state band is sponsored by the South Dakota Music Educators Association and will perform in concert March 4-5 in Pierre. “This is a great opportunity for students who thrive on challenge and expertise,” noted 6-12 band director Susan Karels.

Results from the auditions will be available January 15.
