Thirteen students from Milbank High School auditioned for the top band in the state throughout the month of January in hopes of earning a spot in the 2016 South Dakota All-State band.
Those selected will perform in concert Thursday, March 31, through Saturday, April 2, in Watertown. Final selections to the band will be announced by mid-month.
MHS students who auditioned for the band were Rebecca Loehrer, sophomore flute; Jamie DeVaal, junior clarinet; Brooke Fraasch, junior clarinet; Sadie Holland, sophomore clarinet; Christina Lusk, sophomore clarinet; Chase Pinkert, sophomore clarinet; Korinne Roggenbuck, junior alto sax; Kimberly Van Sambeek, freshman alto sax; Rachelle Gabriel, senior trumpet; Rebekah Tuchscherer, senior trumpet; Kimberlly Aburto, sophomore trumpet; Keaton Hagen, freshman trumpet, and Kellie Christians, freshman percussion.
Students who auditioned for the SD All-State band automatically qualify to participate in the 2016 North Area Honor Band in Aberdeen in December. The students are instructed by Susan Karels, grades 6-12 band director.
