2016-03-06_20.58.44 (1)Milbank High School junior, Connor Lightfield, and senior Rebekah Tuchscherer were named co-champions in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the State A Debate and Individual Events Tournament Friday and Saturday, March 4-5 in Aberdeen.

“Connor and Rebekah both went undefeated throughout the tournament,” explained head coach Natasha Hartman. “Since they are both on the same team, they share the title rather than debate each other.

Lightfield was also crowned champion in the Domestic Extemp division. Kadon Leddy was named runner-up in International Extemp while Tuchscherer finished in sixth place.

Milbank finished third as a team with Spearfish claiming the title and Lennox named runner-up. Kadon Leddy and Macie Redmond teamed up for the Public Forum competition as did Nathan Loutsch and Caitlin Kroemer. Redmond and Kroemer also competed in Original Oratory.

“This was the last tournament of the main speech and debate season,” noted Hartman. “The team will now begin preparing for Student Congress with competitions beginning March 22.”
