meth bust 2On Thursday, April 7, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Milbank Police Department and the South Dakota Highway Patrol, executed a search warrant at 1716 Brittany Street in Riggins Trailer Park, just outside of the Milbank city limits. The search warrant stemmed from a lengthy investigation into the illegal sale of controlled substances, namely methamphetamine. The search of the residence resulted in law enforcement finding a large amount of methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Three people at the residence were taken into custody.

The investigation then led into the issuance of another search warrant for the Landmark Apartments in Milbank. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Milbank Police Department and Watertown Police Department K-9 unit were all involved in the execution of the warrant. A large amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was found. A Minnesota licensed vehicle was also searched as part of the warrant where a large amount of methamphetamine was discovered to be concealed within the front bumper assembly of the vehicle.

“I am pleased that we were able to prevent these illicit drugs from being sold in our county and community,” stated Sheriff Kevin Owen. “This is the largest drug related seizure and arrest we have ever had in Grant County and the Milbank area.”

“I am very proud to say that law enforcement are working together to fight drug abuse locally,” said Milbank Police Chief Boyd VanVooren. “We will all continue to work together to do our best fighting against drug abuse.”

Approximately ¾ of a pound of methamphetamine was seized during the search worth a street level price of about $30,000 dollars. Marijuana and many items of drug paraphernalia were also seized along with $5,000 dollars in cash.

Steel Steele (AKA Logan), age 41 from St. Paul, MN, recently residing in Milbank, is charged with possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of controlled substance, keeping a place for sale or use of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held on a $100,000 dollar cash bond.
Lucinda Ketter, age 52 from Milbank, is charged with distribution of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, ingesting a controlled substance, keeping a place where controlled substance used or sold, possession of drug paraphernalia. She is being held on a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
Michael Altenhofen, age 46 of Milbank, is charged with possession of a controlled substance, ingesting a controlled substance, keeping a place where controlled substance used or sold, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held on a $2,500 cash or surety bond.

All three individuals are being held at the Grant County Detention Center. Their first court appearance will be at the Grant County Courthouse on April 18th.
