hermansFloyd Hermans was voted Birch-Miller Post 9 Legionnaire of the Year. Award winners are selected on the basis of their contribution and service to the American Legion as well as their support for the community.

As Post Sgt. at Arms, Floyd organizes the Honor/Color Guard for all veterans’ funerals eligible for military honors. He is currently organizing the uniforms of the members of the Honor/Color Guard for consistency. He said, “My goal is to have the Color Guard looking our best when honoring a fallen veteran.”

Hermans remains dedicated to helping his fellow veterans. He is Commander of the Milbank-Sisseton Disabled American Veterans Chapter 19, is a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1054, and also serves on their board of directors.

Hermans performs the duties of Commander of the VVA Honor/Color Guard. When called upon, he coordinates the Honor/Color Guards with the American Legion, VFW, DAV, and VVA. He also volunteers for maintenance work at the club and helps organize drivers for the DAV van transporting veterans to and from VA health facilities.
