CommunityLocal News April 24, 2016 Staff Writer 0
The Grant County Veterans Service Office recently changed its hours at the request of the veterans it serves. “We moved our hours to earlier in the day to accommodate our veterans,” stated Veterans Service Officer (VSO) Scott Malimanek.
The VSO office hours are now Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Grant County VSO acts as an advocate for veterans and assists them and their dependents and survivors to apply for benefits, including benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and the State of South Dakota. Referrals are also made to other agencies.
Areas of primary activity are: VA health care, education, disability claims, death benefits, survivor benefits, home loan certificates, and assistance with obtaining military records and discharges.
The county Veterans Service Office offers complete claims service and explanation of VA procedures, provides follow-up service once a decision has been made, provides information regarding eligibility at VA medical facilities, and assists eligible South Dakota veterans in applying for the South Dakota State Bonus Program.
Scott Malimanek can be reached at (605)432-7505, by email at scott.malimanek@state.sd.us or by visiting his office in the Grant County Courthouse.
