Three and four-year-olds in the Emanuel Lutheran Preschool Trike-a-thon raised $1,886.50 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Forty-four preschool children, plus a few siblings, took part in the event May 2-3, in the parking lot of the church.
The Milbank Police Department, with help from Police Chief Boyd VanVooren and Officer Corey Hooth, conducted the trike-a-thon. The tots were taught to implement the bike safety rules they learned throughout the week.
St. Jude Children’s Hospital treats children from birth to age 18 who have cancer. Families receiving medical treatment from the hospital do not receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food, even if they do not have insurance. The hospital believes the only thing a family should worry about is helping their child live.
“We thank all those who donated and supported this great cause,” stated head teacher Karen Tillma. “The weather was perfect and many parents and grandparents came out to watch and support the children.”
