Fire Destroys Homes At Shady Beach
Local News June 21, 2016 Staff Writer 0
At approximately 11 p.m Sunday, June 19, the Milbank and Corona Fire Departments were dispatched to a 911 call of a trailer house fire at 47778 Palisades Ave, east of Shady Beach on Big Stone Lake.
Five trailer homes were damaged or destroyed along with several small sheds. Upon arrival, two trailers were completely engulfed. A third, fourth and fifth home were saved with exterior damage. Fire made its way into the interior of the third home before it was contained.
“Because of the close proximity of the trailer homes, the large number of residences in the area, and the high wind conditions at the time, fire and embers were spreading resulting in the need for the Wilmot and Big Stone City departments to all be dispatched,” explained Fire Chief Kevin Schuelke. “It’s good to see the surrounding departments working together with needed manpower and availability of water supply and pumpers in a time of need. Situations like these could become much worse.”
Crews were on the scene until about 3 p.m. The cause is under investigation.
